Like I said in the 'introduce yourselves' thread, abandoned places is a pretty cool website. He makes the photos a bit 'arty' by being in black and white a lot. He's out of his MIND though, doing the things he does! Artifical owl is another good one. Lotta weird places out there! There's a bunch of others too, but those are my main ones.

I LOVED these sites when you posted them on my board. I wasted like an hour at work just looking through them. I'm obsessed with abandoned buildings and places.

I wasted like an hour at work just looking through them. Heh! I'm obsessed with abandoned buildings and places. Yeah, I can't help but think how cool it'd be to explore a lot of them when we used to go to Louisiana to visit relatives and you'd see a ton on the way there and back (since it was a 7+ hour drive, you saw plenty of them!).

That is a pretty kick ass site!.. I wish i could go around buying some of these old places and turn them into something that looks the same on the outside but inside you'll find technology at it's finest like some type of covert operation going on... lol

Darryl turned me on to those sites as well. I like to wait for a chilly night, then turn off all the lights and look at Abandoned Places. That site is awesome. Reminds me of what my buddies and I used to do before we all grew up and got "real" jobs.

Reminds me of what my buddies and I used to do before we all grew up and got "real" jobs. Like that one house you found in the forest that had been abandoned for probably decades? I guess you don't do much urban exploring any more?

Unfortunately no, and it's a shame too as those are some of the fondest memories of my life. It's a very tranquil experience tinged with fear and apprehension, but also something very calming about places like that. It's still in my blood though. Before I got sick, I did a lot of traveling. Sometimes I would just pull off on the side of the road in a heavily wooded area, just to get out and look around in the woods. I often stop and go into old abandoned tobacco barns, as they're numerous here in North Carolina. I found one like that by accident, and it had a lot of old threshing equipment in it that looked like it hadn't been touched in a hundred years or so. I know it's hard to explain, but there's two types of people out there in this world. There are those that just don't pick up on things of this nature, and then there's guys like us that I think can connect with the stored energies of places and things long forgotten. If that makes us "psychically inclined" or whatever, I don't know, but I find it interesting that many of us share the same beliefs in paranormal and spiritual matters. Without getting too metaphysical, I just feel like I absorb the atmosphere in places like that. It's not a tangible memory, like in the Dead Zone where he touches an object and gets a clear physical impression of the story behind it. It's more like I can walk into an old abandoned home and just feel the general ambiance of all things that transpired there in the past. I get good feelings and bad feelings about certain places; like I can tell that in this particular home there was a lot of love and nurturing while that other particular home feels oppressive and abusive. Sorry to go off on a somewhat strange tangent, but I don't get to talk about subjects like this to anyone that I don't know well in real life without getting weird looks and questions about my mental capacity

Oh yeah, I'd like to do that at some point along the I-10 freeway here, as I saw a TON of abandoned places from here to Louisiana where my grandparents used to live. Need to go along that route for a while at some point just to look around... I often stop and go into old abandoned tobacco barns, as they're numerous here in North Carolina. Heh, that's a term I hadn't heard before So yeah, that'd definitely be your neck of the woods! I know it's hard to explain, but there's two types of people out there in this world. Yeah I don't have anything like that, I just like those places though...interesting! Sorry to go off on a somewhat strange tangent, Hey no problem, interesting thoughts! but I don't get to talk about subjects like this to anyone that I don't know well in real life without getting weird looks and questions about my mental capacity It's ok, we all know you're weird anyway! (Hah, no...we don't know you "Hi, I'm rob, and I get feelings from abandoned places." Room: "HI ROB")

^Rob had told me on another site (when I first put up a link to my abandoned Houston steel mill vid) about how he knew of a house growing up that must've been abandoned for decades, out in a forest in I think one of the Carolinas. Unfortunately he didn't take any pictures of it but it'd be a place he'd retreat to.
Sounded great!
